About Me

Thanks for visiting!

My name is Chris and I have a huge interest in data science and coding. I’ve been interested in programming since taking my first course at Georgia Tech in 2005, CS1371 Computer Science for Engineers using MATLAB. The only code I had written before that was some simple HTML and CSS. I thought I was hot stuff when I had learned the concept of an external style sheet! I had no idea of what was truly possible with code. As I continued in my chemical engineering studies, I began to see what could be done as I used the skills I learned to help solve chemical engineering homework problems and eventually real world problems on the job as well.

While working as a chemical engineer, I didn’t quite feel satisfied. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or rather, what I was really passionate about. I know I wanted to do more than what I was doing at the plant. I decided to get a new job in a related but different field and position. That next job was sales engineering. In a nutshell it was technical proposal writing and there was more to it. If you are not sure about what you want, try out what you think you might want and you WILL know shortly. I tried sales engineering and it was not for me. It was 100% not what I wanted to do in life, but I didn’t know that before I set out on my job search.

I reached a pivotal moment and realized, after much self reflection, reading up on my Myers-Briggs personality type (INTP), consultation with a counselor, and thinking about the things I loved most about the jobs I have held, analytics and programming was a recurring theme. That is when the lightbulb when off. I need to be a data scientist! Data scientists analyzing data using advanced techniques through computer programming. Perfect! Since then I’ve bought several classes and have been getting up to speed on the tools and knowledge required to be a data scientist. I landed a job as a Data Analyst, discovering insights from NPS (Net Promoter Score) data for the company. This website serves the purpose of documenting that journey and helping any others interested in taking, or who are already on the journey!
